What is a Thermal Label Printer and how does it work?

A thermal label printer is a type of printer that creates labels using heat instead of ink or toner. It’s widely used for things like shipping labels, barcodes, receipts, and product tags.

How it works

There are two main types:

Direct thermal printing
- Uses special heat-sensitive paper
- The print head heats specific areas, turning them black
- No ink, ribbon, or toner needed
- Common for shipping labels and receipts
Thermal transfer printing
- Uses a ribbon coated with ink (wax/resin)
- Heat melts the ink from the ribbon onto the label
- Produces more durable, long-lasting labels

Retail price tags and barcodes
Warehouse inventory labels
Receipts at stores and restaurants
